The Alpinestars Tech-Air MX Airbag System is an autonomous airbag protection solution engineered for motocross and supercross riders. Integrated into a compact chest protector, the system is designed to provide upper-body protection while maintaining a streamlined, lightweight profile for freedom of movement on the track.

When a crash is detected, the airbag deploys to protect the rider’s shoulders, chest, and back, with an average inflation time of 40 milliseconds depending on airbag size. The MX/MX Race crash detection algorithm was developed using extensive riding and crash data and tested in demanding professional racing environments. The default MX Mode is intended for motocross riding, while two customizable “MY RIDE” modes can be configured through the Tech-Air App using available MX Race, Enduro, and Rally riding modes.

The system can be worn over or under properly fitting apparel with sufficient room for airbag inflation. A single gas inflator provides one deployment and must be replaced afterward. The quick-release cover is designed to support rapid inflator replacement by users where permitted by local regulations. Activation occurs when the left buckle is attached to the chest protector, while removing the buckle automatically deactivates the system.

An integrated lithium-ion battery provides up to 30 hours of use when fully charged and requires approximately 4 hours to recharge. Charging for approximately 1 hour provides approximately 8 hours of riding use. The integrated LED display monitors system status and battery level, supports riding-mode selection, and provides convenient charging through a USB-C connector. A breathable stretch-mesh vest and Alpinestars Nucleon Plasma back protector technology support ventilation, flexibility, and rider comfort.
