The ALPINESTARS TECH-AIR Tech-Air® Off-Road System combines active airbag protection with an integrated Off-Road Protection Jacket for demanding trail, rally, enduro, and street riding. When the airbag is inflated, it provides coverage across the chest, back, shoulders, neck, and collarbones. The jacket adds passive full back and limb protection, integrated arm protection, and a passive full chest protector to help protect against roost from rocks, debris, and other trail obstacles.

Built as a fully self-contained system, the Tech-Air® Off-Road System uses an Electronic Control Unit with three accelerometers, including one triaxial accelerometer, and three gyroscopes, including one triaxial gyroscope, to monitor riding conditions and provide active airbag protection in dynamic off-road scenarios. Three riding modes—ENDURO, RALLY, and STREET—can be selected using the front-mounted LED Display or the Tech-Air® App. The system is homologated for race use under FIM Cross Country Rally Regulations.

Dual gas inflators provide two separate airbag deployments, with one inflator used per deployment. The airbag has an average inflation time of 52 milliseconds, depending on airbag size. The integrated lithium-ion battery provides up to 30 hours of use when fully charged and recharges in approximately 4 hours; approximately 1 hour of charging provides approximately 8 hours of riding use. Charging is handled through the USB-C port integrated into the LED Display.

Operation is designed for convenience: zipping up the system turns it on and activates the airbag, while unzipping it deactivates the system. The ECU and airbag are removable so the Protection Jacket can be washed separately. A quick-release cover allows user replacement of gas inflators where permitted by local regulations. The system also includes a Shipping Mode switch on the ECU for transportation or extended periods without use.
